Hidden Fees:
Movers will charge extra fees if you give them a reason to. Here's a few quick ways to avoid hidden fees and conflicts.
- Enter all your items. If you didn't enter all of your items and the mover cannot fit everything in the truck, they will charge extra to make an extra trip. In addition, if you forget to mention a couch, a loveseat, or any large item, the mover could charge extra.
- Pack properly. Make sure all boxes are sealed properly and not overly heavy. Saying you have 2 small boxes is better than saying you have 1 big box. Movers will complain about unnecessarily heavy items. If you require additional boxes, bags, tape or other supplies, be aware that movers could charge high prices for these items.
- Enter accurate item information. If you have 3 wardrobe boxes, don't enter 3 boxes without entering the sizes of the boxes. Movers will charge extra. If you say you have a couch, and it's a 3-piece couch, movers will charge extra.
- Provide assistance with all items. If you say that you will provide assistance and don't do so, movers will charge extra. If you can only move some small items, it's better to say it in the Additional Move Info.
- Mention everything. All doorways, hallways, elevators, steps, fragile items, unusally heavy items, building policies, packing required, items that need assembly/disassembly, etc. should be mentioned in Additional Move Info.
Ways to avoid problems:
- Shovel your walk. If the mover falls, your items might be damaged, and the mover can get hurt.
- Be VERY careful when packing sharp objects or glass. You do not want the mover to get hurt.
- Don't put everything in 1 box. The harder you make things on your mover, the more potential for problems.
- Don't pile up garbage at your curb. Movers frequently have to double park. Make sure that there is a clear path to your door from the curb.
- Make sure your floor isn't slippery or wet. If the mover falls, it's bad for both of you.
